Why Choose Ipe?
Ipe wood is renowned for its strength, resilience, and enduring beauty. With a Class A fire rating and natural resistance to termites, decay, mildew and mold, our Ipe tiles are engineered to withstand the elements and the test of time—all while maintaining a refined, architectural appearance.
Key Features:
-
Extremely Durable: High density and Janka hardness of 3680 make Ipe one of the toughest woods available.
-
Weather-Resistant: Resists warping, twisting, and splintering—even in harsh climates.
-
Low Maintenance: Naturally long-lasting with optional sealing to maintain its rich, warm color.
-
Fire-Rated: Class A fire rating for added peace of mind.
-
Eco-Smart: Tiles help protect roofing membranes from UV damage, extending roof life while repurposing otherwise unusable space.
- Environmentally Conscious Sourcing: SkyWalk Ipe pavers are made from responsibly harvested Brazilian hardwood. We only partner with mills committed to sustainable forestry practices—and for every tree used, two new trees are planted, ensuring a positive impact on the environment.
Design Flexibility:
Our 24" x 24" Ipe tiles blend beautifully with other SkyDeck paver solutions like porcelain, turf, or concrete. They can be installed in linear or crisscross patterns for customized aesthetics. Whether sealed to retain their deep brown tone or left to naturally age into a silvery patina, the visual impact is always stunning.
Easy Installation on Pedestals:
SkyDeck’s Ipe tiles are designed for seamless integration with SkyJack adjustable pedestal systems. The installation allows easy access to the roof beneath, supports rooftop drainage, and ensures a level walking surface—even on sloped roofs.
Our Ipe clips secure the tiles to our pedestals to prevent wind uplift and ensure the tiles don't move side to side with pedestrian traffic.

Choosing Rooftop Ipe Deck Tiles
Whether a specification calls them ipe deck tiles, ipe pavers, or ipe wood tiles, the product is the same: structural squares of dense Brazilian hardwood that turn a flat roof into a warm, natural deck. Ipe is one of the hardest woods sold for outdoor use, with a Janka hardness of 3,680 and a Class A fire rating, and it naturally resists termites, decay, mildew, and mold without chemical treatment. SkyDeck's tiles come from responsibly harvested Brazilian hardwood, and for every tree used, two new trees are planted.
Each tile comes in the standard 24" x 24" format, engineered for pedestal installation. Set on the SkyJack adjustable grid, the tiles create a level walking surface over a sloped roof, water drains through the open joints to the membrane below, and any tile lifts out for roof access. Ipe Lock hidden fasteners hold the tiles to the pedestal heads for wind resistance while staying hidden beneath the deck surface, and a rated load of 2,900 pounds per tile carries planters, furniture, and foot traffic with ease.
Left alone, ipe weathers to an even silver-gray patina; oiled periodically, it keeps its deep brown color. Both paths are legitimate, and the choice is reversible with a deep clean and fresh oil. The honest tradeoff against concrete and porcelain is care: wood asks for a simple seasonal routine of sweeping, rinsing, and an annual deep clean, in exchange for a natural surface neither of the others can imitate. The maintenance guide below covers the full routine.
The Ipe System at a Glance
24 x 24 Ipe Deck Tiles
The core product: structural Brazilian hardwood tiles in the standard 24" x 24" format, sized to course over the SkyJack pedestal grid.
Ipe Lock Hidden Fasteners
Marine-grade stainless steel clips that fit the kerf cuts at each tile corner and fasten to the pedestal head. Wind-resistant, adjustable, and removable.
SkyJack Adjustable Pedestals
The substrate under every tile. Twist-adjust pedestals cover heights from 3/8" to 37.75" with extenders; bracing is required above 21.75".
Finish: Oiled or Silvered
Keep the deep brown with periodic oiling, or let the tiles weather to silver-gray. The patina is surface-level, and the look is reversible with a deep clean and fresh oil.
